For the past twenty minutes, Snake had been hanging on for dear life. The small boat Naomi and Otocon deployed him from couldnt get any closer than two hundred kilometers from their target and a drop landing was out of the question. The had no choice but to strap the stealth agent to the small propeller device Otocon had rigged up just last week and send him on his way. So here he was, Velcro to a white, plastic buoy with a single speed boat propeller, drifting through shark-infested water with nothing but a tranquilizer pistol and a combat knife to degen him from the heavily armed enemy.
Just another day at the office, really.
The target was a small island, unknown to the general public, that was home to a secret sect of researchers known as Nest. FOXHOUND hadnt even heard of the group until early the previous week, when Otocon had stumbled upon the name in his research of Metal Gear. They dated back to 1962 and where the main testers for the Metal Gear components. But in ht early 80s they stopped working on the nuclear weapons project and turned to developing bomb shelters for the US government. Although seemingly out of whole Metal Gear business all together, Otocon was able, through hours of cracking and several large pots of coffee, to find a strange document.
Mei Ling was able to decipher it as a series of complex codes. When she ran it through diagnostic, the machine failed not coming back online until Naomi was able to coax it back. But over half its memory was gone and it still sent up a cloud of black smoke every time it was turned on. The document titled the codes as The Nightingales Song.
But that was not why Snake was floating through the endless abyss to imminent danger. The other day, satellite photos and a pilfered set of emails from the Pentagon concluded that the island had been taken hostage by a nameless group of well-armed terrorists. With threats to expose Nest to the general public and a ransom of over twenty million dollars, the team packed their gear and made a one way plane trip to Tokyo.
It was now nearing thirty minutes since Snake left the safety of the small yacht and he could see a dark mass getting closer.
